The Association Claude et Felix Lanzmann and the Jewish Museum Berlin announce the inclusion of Claude Lanzmann's film-monument Shoah (1985) in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register.
Claude Lanzmann is a French journalist, writer, director and producer. Resistance fighter, committed intellectual and collaborator of Jean-Paul Sartre, he fought for Algerian independence while defending the State of Israel. He is the author of the film-monument Shoah, the landmark work that gave its name to the genocide of the Jews, "an unparalleled alliance of horror and beauty" according to Simone de Beauvoir.
Claude Lanzmann est un résistant, journaliste, écrivain, réalisateur et producteur français. Intellectuel engagé, collaborateur de Jean-Paul Sartre, il lutte pour l’indépendance de l’Algérie tout en défendant l'État d'Israël. Il est l’auteur du film-monument Shoah, oeuvre de référence qui donnera son nom au génocide des juifs, “une alliance sans pareille de l’horreur et de la beauté” d’après Simone de Beauvoir.
