THE LANZMANN MOMENT, Shoah original event - Released on January 27, 2024

The Lanzmann Moment. What does this moment correspond to? To a double “irruption”, in the lives of millions of people around the world, of what Lanzmann refers to as an original event: Shoah, the movie. At the same time, that of a word with an enigmatic brevity, imposed without prior definition: a door open to multiple paths that require us to discover with the author the immensity of the disaster, and that of a literary and cinematographic masterpiece, at the same time, that of a literary and cinematographic masterpiece, now registered in the Unesco Memory of the World Register.

The greatness of Shoah is measured by the fact of having overcome the impossibility of representing mass murder in the Nazi extermination camps, without gunshots or violent images.

If the broadcasts in France of Shoah on television brought millions of people together in front of the screen, the destruction of European Jews nevertheless remains a foreign fact, both incomprehensible and always more or less hidden by a large part of humanity.

In this sense, the Shoah is generating a rift, which was repeated atrociously during the genocidal attack of October 7, 2023. The authors gathered here give a lucid account of the extreme vulnerability of our civilization.

The Lanzmann Moment inaugurates the eponymous collection, which will deal with subjects related to Claude Lanzmann's work, such as crimes against humanity, the rise of hatred against Jews, etc. This collection will be directed by Dominique Lanzmann and Jean-Jacques Moscovitz at David Reinharc
